Key points
- Uses IS formula weight per metre = d² / 162 (d in mm).
- Bundle weights follow the SAIL/SEL convention.
- Quantity × length × unit weight → total kg.
Formula & how it works
Unit weight (kg/m) = (d² × π/4 × 7850) / 1000 ≈ d² / 162.
Total weight = unit weight × length × quantity.
Worked example
- 12 mm × 12 m × 10 bars.
- Unit = 144 / 162 = 0.888 kg/m.
- Total = 0.888 × 12 × 10 = 106.6 kg.
Expert tips & mistakes to avoid
- Always add a 5–7% wastage buffer — mid-slab shortages cost more than the buffer bags.
- For engineered members (RCC columns/beams), follow the structural drawing over any calculator.
- Order cement in tranches — bags older than 90 days lose strength.
- Confirm the current market rate on WhatsApp before finalising the budget — prices printed here are indicative only.
Frequently asked questions
Is this bundle-accurate?
+
It gives the theoretical (nominal) weight. Actual mill weight varies within IS tolerance — bundle invoice may differ by a couple of %.
Which grade should I order?
+
Use Fe 550D (like SEL Tiger 550D) for earthquake-resistant RCC — the 'D' means higher elongation.
